The Chamber Orchestra of Leeds has been newly formed by the conductor, Martin Binks MBE. It’s inaugural concert was held in October 2018 to wide critical acclaim. Accompanying the orchestra is our resident soloist, Charlotte Rowan, on violin.

Our programme will be the following:

Camilla is well known to the Wetherby Festival having previously played for us. Claudio Lamuraglia is a renowned oboist and artistic director of the ‘Nuova Musica’ Chamber Orchestra of Puglia in Italy.

More details of our soloists

Charlotte Rowan: Charlotte has gained recognition for her virtuosity and masterful command of the violin.  She has performed with orchestras both in America and Britain and has played at some of the country’s finest cathedrals: Ely, Winchester, Chichester, Ripon, Chelmsford, Lincoln, and Manchester, to critical acclaim.  She has appeared at many festivals including Homerton, Harwich, Edinburgh, Crail and Buckingham.  Her refreshing approach to concert programming and stylistic interpretations has resonated strongly with audiences and attracted new listeners to the violinistic genre.

Camilla Bisengaliev: Camilla was brought up Kazakhstan from a famous musical family, graduating from the Kazakh Special Music School with distinction and winning many prizes along the way. She was 15 when she won the Novosibirsk Competition, competing against the whole of the Soviet Union.

Camilla came to Leeds in 1999 to study with Richard Hewitt, principal oboe of Opera North. She studied also with Stephane Rancout, principal oboe of the Halle Orchestra and with Emily Pailthorpe. She has appeared at a number of Leeds International Concert Seasons and has performed concerto performances and recitals in her home country as well as in Italy and England. Orchestrally, she has joined orchestras ranging from The Kazakh State Symphony Orchestra, the Symphony Orchestra of India, to Opera North and the Orchestra “Nuova Musica.” In 2006 Camilla toured Belgium, Switzerland and Italy as principal oboe and soloist with European Vacation Chamber Orchestra. Last summer she toured Southern Italy playing recitals with Vito Nicola Paradiso in Bari, Nova Siri and Capri.

Camilla has recorded Elgar’s Fugue for Violin and Oboe with Marat Bisengaliev on Naxos label, 2011. She has worked with Sir Karl Jenkins on the recordings of “Tlep” and “Shakarim,” which are based on Kazakh folk music.

Camilla is also appearing on Wednesday at one of our Lunchtime Concerts.

Claudio Lamuraglia:  Claudio is a leading oboe specialist, teacher, conductor and music editor from Italy. As a soloist, Claudio’s main interest is interpreting the works of composers such as Albinoni, Marcello, Handel, Bach and Vivaldi, which he successfully recorded on various CDs. He is the Artistic Director of “Nuova Musica” orchestra in Puglia. Claudio also teaches extensively in and around the Puglia region (BA). This is Claudio’s debut at the Wetherby Festival.
