Festival Latest

It’s now less than a month now before the Wetherby Festival starts on Friday 30 September! Having had 2 years of COVID disruption we are hoping to see many of you and that there will be something for everyone to enjoy at the forthcoming Festival.

You should by now have received a copy of our brochure, with the full programme of events, in the free “Excelle” magazine. If not, please go along to the Town Hall or Library to pick up a copy. Alternatively go to our ‘Whats-On” page or download the programme.

Over 10 days we have a super programme at a range of local venues. In the first of a variety of musical performances, St. James’ Church will be the venue on Saturday 1 st October for the Wetherby Silver Band and a Rock Choir. The same venue will also host the Leeds Symphony Orchestra on Saturday 8 th October.

Classical music enthusiasts can look forward to dinner and performances by the Midnight Quintet in comfortable surroundings at the Bridge Hotel on Monday, 3 rd October. The splendid acoustic musicians, Fools Gold, will be performing at Wetherby Methodist Church on Wednesday, 5 th October. The following night the Engine Shed will be the place to be for the popular Swing Commanders performing their lively fusion of jazz, country, swing and blues.

Comedy is well served during the Festival. Well-known comedians, Neil Delamere and Alfie Moore, will be performing in Wetherby Town Hall on the evening of Sunday, 2nd October, in the first of two comedy nights. The Literary lunch, always a popular attraction, will take place on Friday, 7 th October at the Bridge Hotel, Walshford. Two speakers have been booked - the novelist and screenwriter Deborah Moggach and local author from Harrogate, Rob Cowen. You may recall that one of Deborah’s books was made into the popular film, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. Tickets always sell out very quickly for the Literary lunch, so please don’t delay once tickets go on sale.

Later on the evening of Friday, 7th October, those of you who enjoy folk music should come along to Wetherby Rugby Union Club. Four acts have been booked. This will be the first of two events at the rugby club, with a comedy night on Sunday, 9th October being the final event of the Festival. We can guarantee this will be a fun way to close the Festival.
