Festival Box Office Open

Have you bought your tickets yet? They’re going fast. The Festival Committee held a meeting last night and one event (OK it was free) looks to be a sell-out. The room only holds so many people (fire safety) so don’t leave it too long.
It’s not long before our 44 th Festival – just a fortnight! 10 days of celebration, 30 September to 9 October. Comedy, Folk, Literature, Theatre…. A proper Arts Festival, on your doorstep.

The Box Office is open 10-12 every day – except the day of the funeral of Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth.
Look at our website wetherbyfestival.co.uk for details. You can buy online as well.

Here’s a smattering of what’s on offer:

TWO COMEDY NIGHTS: we welcome back Neil Delamere, the Irish born star comedian, fresh from Edinburgh Festival who was such a hit the last time he came. Then there is Fin Taylor and Scott Bennett from the Apollo, Lou Conran and Micky P Kerr, up and coming comedians.

Over the years we’ve had plenty who have grown to stardom since Wetherby – Sarah Milligan and Masie Adams for example. Were we the reason for their success?

I recommend FOOLS GOLD, acoustic musicians. They have already clocked up 2,500 shows which gives a measure of their popularity. They love performing in smaller venues like ours, so get in fast. It’s being held in the Methodist Church, which is not so small! There are some tickets left. This duo weave stories and pictures around everything they sing and play.

The LITERARY LUNCH at the Bridge Hotel in Walshford, features two authors of good repute:
Rob Cowen and Deborah Moggach. Rob is a local writer. ‘Sensitive, thoughtful and poetic’ said Michael Palin about Rob’s book Common Ground. Deborah is the author of the book which became that top-rated, well-loved film Best Exotic Marigold Hotel.

There’s so much more. SWING COMMANDERS is our biggest show, at the Engine Shed. That should be a cracker of an evening. For more details you really need to examine our website – dates, ticket prices etc..

There are CHILDREN’S WORKSHOPS (Get booking, Mums.) A FOLK NIGHT with talented local musicians, and then what we all crave for – live theatre, this year in the form of a hilarious one-man comedy puppet show! We’ve had the Bad Apple Theatre several times and they always exceed our wildest expectations.

The Festival brochure to be found all round Wetherby and District. You should have received your September Excelle Magazine by now. Have a look in there. Better still, look online now for dates and prices – it’s the best way to ensure you get a seat.

As I said, gallop down to the Box Office in the Wetherby Town Hall, open from 10pm for two hours every day from today, Thursday (Market Day) 15 September, with the exception of Monday 19 September.

Have a wonderful festival! I hope to see you there.
