Painting with fabric - the slow stitch way
,
Whether you have never picked up a needle before or you are an experienced stitcher looking to try a new method this is a deceptively simple way to use your creativity to make something unique. Learn the confetti quilting technique and use a few simple and basic embroidery stitches to create a beautiful, mini appliqué piece perfect for framing. You will use tiny, raw-edged bits of fabric to "paint" an impressionistic nature scene. Using fabric instead of paint pigment, you can depict leaves, meadows, water, and skies and learn how to breathe new life into forgotten fabric scraps.
This is a low-pressure, welcoming session and Glynis will provide everything you need to complete the project, full support throughout and written instructions to help you continue your textile art journey.

Jo Garlick - Wildlife in Soft Pastel - Sunday 4th 10 - 12 noon
Do you want to improve your soft pastel painting skills? Join Jo for this workshop to learn more about how to successfully use pastels to create a wildlife pastel painting.
Designed for both beginners and those with some experience, this course will help to advance your pastel painting skills. You will learn about the differences between hard and soft pastels and the different types of papers that are available. Jo will teach you a variety of different ways you can use your pastels. You will learn about composition, mark making and drawing techniques and how to create realistic and expressive wildlife paintings.
Wear comfortable clothes you don’t mind getting messy (or bring an apron/ shirt with you) and preferably (but not essential) wear a short sleeved top or one that you can easily pull the sleeves up.
Jo will provide soft pastels and pastel paper. Reference images will also be provided but please feel free to bring your own.
11 years + (under 16 to be accompanied by one adult)
Jo Garlick is an Artist based in North Yorkshire and is fascinated by all elements of the natural world, especially wildlife.
Jo works predominantly in soft pastel and loves the versatility and immediacy of the medium, using it to create characterful pictures of British wildlife and a broad spectrum of landscapes, inspired by the life and heritage of the area.
Jo graduated from Newcastle University in 2007. She has exhibited in various galleries in Yorkshire and the North East, and has had work accepted in the Society of Wildlife Artists annual open exhibition at the Mall Galleries in 2021, 2024 and 2025; in the David Shepherd Wildlife Artist of the Year exhibition in 2025; and the SAA annual exhibition in 2022.

Wild Owl Company - Print Your Own Christmas Cards - Sunday 4th 1 pm - 3 pm
Abigail Forster will guide you through a mini lino cut workshop.
Participants will carve their own stamps to create individual Christmas cards. Everyone will keep their stamps and leave with 5 printed cards and information on creating more.
10 years +. Children under the age of 16 will require adult supervision, as carving gouges will be used to create the stamps.
